The purpose of my visit to the Water Sciences Laboratory (WSL) was to perform hydro-chemical analysis and stable isotope studies of water samples for my PhD research program. The selection of a laboratory was the most difficult part of the entire program, because getting a lab with all the facilities was a challenge. I sent out many emails to different labs all over the world. While some labs were willing to assist, they did not have the facilities and other labs did not respond to me at all. I also tried to reach out to renowned hydrogeologists in Africa and other countries but didn't make any progress. Finally I found the Water Sciences Laboratory through my professional network. WSL was the only lab, I found, with all the instruments and expertise I needed for my analysis. I did not expect to find such a world class laboratory in Nebraska. It is like a "one stop shop" for hydro-chemical analysis. My analyses at WSL included cations and anions using ion chromatography, trace metals using ICP-MS and stable isotopes such as O18 and H in water
